Service for creating design layouts and interiors

Exactly a year ago, my partner decided to become an entrepreneur. Or rather, I realized that now we were partners-startups. Something as changed after this our life is a topic for another article. Now I would like to pay attention to our child — the planning service areas and interiors.

So, a couple of years ago, both founder almost simultaneously caught in a life situation, which occurs in all — time repairs.



We, as pros, immediately began to look for some system that would help us to somehow conceived plan. After meticulous research, we are left with nothing. Why? Because of how demanding the developers, searching for the perfect software.

That our understanding was perfect:
— the lack of Flash;
— working as on computers and on tablets;
— 3D mode with the possibility of rotation in real time, and not PreRender with 8 corners.
— storage in the cloud, i.e. the opportunity to return to the saved data from different devices;
— prepare, because the repair — it joint, why not share planirovochnoe wife does not, not to mention the executors of repair;
— easy, because we don't like autocad, we wanted a Sims game, only slightly more realistic;
— no need to pay for the service;
— well, just adequate interface.

To be honest, a lot of such services, floorplanner.com, homestyler.com — some of the best. All we found is flash and again flash some inconvenient interfaces, lack of basic functionality (for example, geometry is a little more complicated of a square room), a pseudo 3D (fixed camera angles, or just PreRender), etc.

We did not give in to their selection criteria service. As experienced developers, and by the time we have already spent several years in the same team in a pair of programmer/designer, we made our own service. First it was the prototype that allows to create a layout with arbitrary geometry and the ability to place a minimum set of furniture. Later, after passing the qualifying round and received an invitation from the incubator Farminers, we rejected all extraneous matter, and devoted all his time to only the scheduler.

We have already solved your problem, I did repairs in the apartment, my partner built a house. And now I want to turn this into a full-fledged public service.

What does the Planner 5D.

Foundation

The service is developed using HTML5, it runs on any device, where is his support. It could even be the TV if it is equipped with a browser (in particular Panasonic, and Samsung we tested personally).

Graphics

2D vector (SVG) and 3D WebGL, this all runs within the browser. We continually strive to improve the quality of the picture. Except dynamic shadows, reflections, etc., we provide the possibility to change the materials of objects. I.e., any of, say, a sofa you can change the upholstery (fabric, leather...) and wood legs, frame, etc.

Try to make it simple, this is one of the main priorities. The goal was to make a semblance of Sims. Sometimes we think that we succeeded.

Community and socialization

In addition to sharing in feisbuc and Twitter, we want to do a full internal community. General gallery of user projects, discussions, etc.

One of the features that we implemented, was placed on third-party resources. Any layout can be embed as a YouTube video or Yandex/Google maps. Copy the code, paste it on a site, voila.



You can also export the resulting high-resolution images (jpg or png).

Cloud

(also tired of this term, but what to do?)
All data is stored on the server, i.e. to start creating a layout the user can at home on my iPad, and continued in office from the browser and show the result in the evening the whole family on the TV. In the absence of a connection to the server at the time of saving data, the project is stored locally at the first opportunity and then sent to the server.

For end users, the service is absolutely free. The money we earn, concluding partnership agreements with manufacturers/retailers of furniture, sanitary ware, home goods, Wallpaper, Windows, doors, etc.

Partners either embed the scheduler into your website page, giving a “try on” customers selected the product, or place their products from us, in the catalog directly on the site Planner 5D.

In addition, we cooperate with the real estate sector. Soon start several projects that will use the scheduler option on your website about the sale/rental of houses and apartments.

In the nearest plans to release separate apps on the iPad (I think closer to November). There, on the tablet, augmented reality. I.e. “fitting” of furniture, finishing materials and household goods directly to your premises, based on the created plan.

We know that the service is not perfect, and every day improving it. Maybe it's wrong, but we try to implement everything users ask. Often receive letters with requests to add a particular object, and sometimes new functionality. And we try as quickly as possible to implement the request. After all, the service though is in our hands, but embodied the desires of users, because it is “custom”.

At the beginning of the summer I spent a month in Silicon Valley, showing service on different themed parties, representatives of companies and investors. Feedback managed to collect enormous. Most importantly, people liked it and they are waiting for the development of the product.
